In the daily routines of many companies, sales order management is a constant and repetitive process: emails with requests arrive, inventory is reviewed, quotes are prepared, changes are negotiated, and finally, the order is generated. All of this requires time, attention, and precise follow-up, which often consumes key resources from the sales team.

With the arrival of the Sales Order Agent In Business Central, Microsoft takes a step forward towards a new way of working, where the artificial intelligence does not replace, but power to the teams.
This agent is designed to handle the entire flow of sales requests received via email, from receipt of the message to final conversion into an order, all within Business Central and under human supervision.
How does the Sales Order Agent work?
The agent follows a structured process that covers sales order management from start to finish. Here's a step-by-step summary:
- Receiving applications
The agent monitors a specific email inbox configured in Business Central. Each time an email arrives with a potential sales request, it is automatically detected. - Analysis of email content
Using artificial intelligence, the agent identifies the products, quantities, delivery dates, and other key details of the order. If important information is missing, they respond directly to the customer via email to request it. - Inventory verification
Check if products are available in stock, helping to provide a realistic and accurate response to the customer. - Generation of the quote
Once you've gathered all the information, create a PDF quote that includes all the necessary details: products, prices, units, taxes, and estimated delivery dates. - Shipping to customer
The agent sends the proposal directly to the client via email. If the client approves the quote, the agent automatically converts the document into a sales order within Business Central. - Human supervision and traceability
Although the agent automates the workflow, there are times when it requires human intervention, for example, to validate outgoing emails or review unusual requests. The entire process is documented and can be reviewed from a timeline within the system.
Transparency and control: keys to design
One of the Sales Order Agent's strengths is its focus on transparency. Every action taken is recorded in a user-accessible timeline, showing both the steps taken and the decisions made. Additionally, Business Central provides notifications within the environment when the agent needs support or a review, keeping the end user at the center of the process.
Which companies can benefit from this functionality?
This agent is especially useful for companies that manage many email orders and want to improve their efficiency without losing control over the process. Automating these types of tasks frees up the sales team's time, reduces manual errors, and allows them to focus on more strategic actions.
Is it already available in Spain?
Here comes the less enthusiastic part: it's not yet available in our country. For now, Sales Order Agent works only in English and in regions like the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. However, it's only a matter of time. The technology is already ready, and we couldn't be more excited to see it in action in Spain.
Current considerations and limitations
Although this is a very promising feature, it still has room for improvement. For example, it doesn't process attachments or work with documents such as invoices or credit notes. It can only manage already registered entities (customers, products, etc.), and always requires human review before sending a quote. It's also important to note that it isn't equipped to manage personalized discounts or special prices via email.
Despite all this, the Sales Order Agent represents a clear example of what awaits us: intelligent solutions that integrate natively into our ERPs and are designed to accompany, not replace, people.
One step closer to the future
Intelligent automation is no longer a promise. It's gradually making its way into the tools we use every day, and although we're still waiting in Spain, this new agent in Business Central is a clear sign of where we're headed.
Can you imagine a future where your sales team can focus more on closing sales and less on repetitive tasks? That future is getting closer.
